Indicators on the household’s economy, based on an overview of main income sources provide information on whether IDPs are accessing social protection mechanisms (as the rest of the population, if relevant to context), informal support systems, like remittances, or if they primarily rely on unsustainable income sources for daily subsistence (e.g. humanitarian assistance or loans to cover basic needs). Furthermore, indicators on household expenditures can be used to calculate poverty levels and economic vulnerability (e.g. via a food ratio). Data on the household economy should be collected at the household level assuming a joint economy within the household (even if expenditures subsequently are calculated per capita).
